Generation Gap Marketing Techniques

Tips to Help Bridge the Marketing Gap with Different Generations

Bridging the generation gap
One challenge that many marketers and business owners face is bridging the gap between their own age bracket and customers representing different generations. While knowing the traits, likes, values and behaviors of your target market is important, small businesses have a unique advantage over larger corporation in the area of marketing toward the generation gap – younger consumers seem to much prefer doing business with smaller, “home grown” businesses.

Social Media Marketing is Key

One marketing platform that some businesses struggle with is incorporating social media into the overall promotional plan. The older generations are starting to get on the social media wagon, but not enough to really be influenced by what they find. Younger generations, on the other hand, get a lot of their information from social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While this should not suggest moving all your marketing to social media, doing some marketing here will definitely impact your audience.

Incorporating social media into your marketing plan is easier than it seems – instead of abandoning your print, radio, or television ads, have them support your social media pages and help to drive traffic to them. Include the phrase “check us out on Facebook,” or whatever social media platform you are using, into your print or audio marketing to show younger generations you do have a presence online. Additionally, your social media pages can support print, radio, and television marketing in the same way.

Make Your Digital Marketing Mobile Friendly

Older generations tend to be a little shyer when it comes to technology but millennials are all about the mobile lifestyle. For those tech-savvy consumers, there is nothing more frustrating than landing on a webpage that is not mobile-friendly and does not load properly on their smartphone or tablet. If they are unable to buy products they are interested on their device, regardless of how much they like it, they may just go to another source. In order to make sure you reach your target audience wherever they are and so you do not lose sales, work with your web-developer to make sure all of your websites and other online materials are both computer and mobile device compatible.

Use Strong Visuals

Younger consumers are much more drawn to things that they can visually see, either in a photo or a video. This is why review videos on YouTube are so popular – younger consumers want to see products in action and want to see what other people are saying about them. While review videos are a driving force, businesses can also add their own momentum by putting out interesting, well-done photos and videos whenever possible. Making an impression visually with younger consumers is key to success.

Go Green

The Green Movement in business is still alive and well and no generational group is more on this wagon than the millennials. Being environmentally friendly is at the top of many young consumer’s priority list and they are much more likely to interact and purchase from businesses who share the same values by producing green products or by operating in a more economically-friendly manner. Because of this, it is important for businesses to develop a strong eco-friendly image and make sure consumers are aware.

Social Media Marketing For A Small Business

After discovering a legitimate home business idea and establishing a corporate framework, marketing becomes the main focus. For a small business, this can be a challenge because funds are usually limited. Social media can be leveraged for marketing purposes and offers unbounded potential. After developing goals for a social media marketing campaign and determining how success will be measured, it is time to get started.

Facebook provides excellent free and low-cost marketing opportunities. With hundreds of millions of users and a strong platform, every small business should create a Business Fan Page with Facebook. Researching how the competition uses its account may provide inspiration for page enhancements. Adding videos and photos and soliciting consumer feedback through posts can result in more fans, increasing the online visibility of the company.

Twitter is another great social media tool for small businesses. A business Twitter account is essential and basic searches will reveal whether others are already tweeting about the company. Mobile and desktop clients like Tweetie and TweetDeck allow small business owners to pre-define searches to monitor keywords related to the business.

Millions of professionals from hundreds of countries have joined LinkedIn. Small business owners should create a business account, link to vendors, and join relevant subject matter groups. They should also encourage customers, vendors, and prospects to provide a recommendation on the business profile. This makes the business look more credible to new customers and causes the company profile to rank higher in search engine results.

Blogs are still going strong and if the small business does not already have one, there is no time like the present. Simply reserve a domain name for the blog or set it up on the WordPress site. Then, determine the blog focus and regularly create interesting and informative content. Base this content on areas of expertise and topics of interest.

Internet Marketing is Dead in 2010 for the Little Guy

Internet Marketing is Dead in 2010 for the Little Guy

The old way of creating a website and driving traffic to it or creating leads off of a website is absolutely dead. If you were doing it in the 90’s you probably found it as an extremely lucrative way to make money from home. But it today’s world of SEO, Google Ad words and now Social Media you literally can spend 10’s of 1,000’s of dollars just learning about the continued changing of the Internet Marketing dynamics. That’s fine if you are a millionaire but not if you are striving to become a millionaire or less. Let’s look at 2 aspects of Internet Marketing and why it doesn’t work for the little guy, first SEO then Social Media.

First SEO, Search Engine Optimization in 2010 is becoming extremely competitive and the only way to really start to break in is to spend 10’s of 1,000’s and in some cases even 100’s of thousands of dollars. If you are a large corporation trying to get your message to an Internet audience then that makes sense but once you get “optimized” showing up in the search engines. Google will change again and you will have to start over almost. That doesn’t mean if you are a little guy you should ignore the Internet or SEO it just means it should be a compliment to your business. If you rely on SEO to create your customers then you are putting the control of your income in the hands of the search engines.

Social Media, We’ve all heard it Linkin, Digg, Facebook, Twitter and etc. that is where a huge amount of marketing efforts on the net are going too. Only one problem with this and that is it’s even more fluid and changes more rapidly than SEO. Staying on top of the changes to attempt to get the maximum impact out of it and chase that dream you are looking for will become expensive over time.

One Internet Marketer I met recently shared that he had made 1.4 million dollars in one year but he spent about 1.2 million dollars to make it. Now 200,000 in annual income is not bad, but are you willing to invest 1.2 million to see if you can profit 200,000? Finally a reality check look at your top Internet Marketers on the Internet, figure out what some of their key words are and then start looking at how much money they spend in Google Ad words? If it all the things they sale from Social Media to how to rank in the Search Engine worked why spend 10’s of 1,000’s in paid Google ads? BTW, why would they ever show you exactly what they do? How many people can be in the top 10 on Google for a given key word?

The Internet can be a compliment to what you do but it can’t be all you do. Most of my existing clients or pending clients find me down on the net. Don’t abandon what you may know already entirely. Because the Internet is a powerful place to brand yourself, but don’t let that be the primary way you grow your income if you are a “little guy”.

Top Internet Marketer Jeff Mills Endorses MyDFILive Marketing System for Coastal Tavel

Jeff Mills Internet Guru, also known as the "Minister of Marketing" just recently gave his full endorsement of the newest update to the DFI marketing system for Coastal Travel. Jeff Mills recently received an invite to the launch of this new system called MyDFILive.com.

The latest upgrade show a willingness by the DFI Leadership to do what every they can to ensure that it's members have every chance to become successful in Coastal Travel. This is how Jeff Mills put it in a letter he recently sent out.

By Jeff Mills, July 23rd 2008

Something big just happened to Coastal Travel.

When I say big, I think it's bigger than when Coastal finally got a website back in 2002! (*wink)

Over these 4 years, I have used many online systems and something was just released to me today, and I have to show it to you.

When I say there is nothing like it... trust me... I know systems and there is nothing like it. This is HUGE NEWS....

Jeff Mills, than added this,...

Then realize, the bar just got raised WAY WAY WAY beyond any system, for ANY company that has ever used an online system before.I know that's a bold statement, but you absolutely must look at this, and for $1 go try it out... seriously... if you are in my team, sign up now and plugin. And if you cannot afford $1 to try it out, then I am not sure what's going on in your life, but this is a way to change that.

What Mr. Jeff Mills said next was even more flattering coming from the "Minister of Marketing"

The support system in place is really the top coaching and support team in this industry.

This is so huge, it's hard to describe what this tool does, but even better... how simple it is for people with no computer skills to use it out of the box and get results.

Again, it's not complicated!

Seriously, I just got off their success call tonight and I had to SHOUT this from the mountain tops.......

Don't even think about it, or delete this email, go to the link and do the $1 trial. If you don't like it in 30 days, quit. And it only costs you $1.

Oh, and if you sign up now, you'll get 100 leads dumped into your system.

In His Grip, ><>
Jeff Mills

Coming from Jeff Mills this is HUGE News very few people have the experience that Jeff has when it comes to understanding systems. We are certainly grateful for his endorsement and review. He is an extremely busy man and Jeff we know your heart is to see other people succeed.

Thank You So Much,
Stacy O'Quinn
