The Power of Preception, This will make you think

I ran across this the other day and it's a unique story. Something that I thought was really interesting is there are two ways to view this story. Share your thoughts with us. What did you come away with after you read it?

Lessons Learned by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”

“It was great, Dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh yeah,” said the son.
“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.

The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

“We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
“We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
“We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”

The boy’s father was speechless.

Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.”

P.S. Sometimes we are so focused on the end result we don't even notice the blessings we already have.

Thx for sharing that with us Stace. It is a beautiful reminder of how the simple things in life are the true blessings, and learning the art of appreciating the small things is the secret to true happiness in this materialistic world. That's what I think anyways :) It reminded me of the small farm that we grew up on, and all the years we grew up with little, often feeling left out compared to some of our richer friends...but as we grew older, we realized that we, were the rich ones. The lessons learned, the values gained, and the appreciation for things we had to work for, has now served us well in our adult lives, and this is a reminder of that for me.
Thx again
May we always remember where we came from, so that we can be truly proud of where we are now, and where we are headed.

Wow, it has been a while since I have heard this story. Far to often we lose sight of what is in front of us; the blessings we do have. Always looking too far ahead, will never although you to focus on now.
We are not meant to jugde people! For who they are or where in life and society. If we do, we will never learn from each other or be able to help each other through the processes of life... Nor our businesses.
