How to Survive in a Down Economy

Does the slow down in today's economy bother you? Are you worried about the instability in your job or industry?

Working from home I personally have not seen the effects in our household from the economy so far. While from a distance I've watched the effects in others.

In the next few moments I'll share with you how to brave the murky waters in today's environment with confidence that you will make it to the other side. Several steps we have used to pay down debt, increase our opportunities, grow our income, work only part time and continue to create memories as a family.

1. Make wise confident decisions with your money and ACT.

-The financial resources you do have need to be working for you NOW! Indecision creates a defensive mind set financially and creates an environment were you are trying to preserve wealth vs create it. Preserving wealth will eventually lead you to running out of money and put you in an unproductive state of fear.

2. People you know and past experiences are the very first place you should be looking for new opportunities. Chances are you will personally know someone who has already taken a risk and succeeded financially. It could have been moving for a new job or starting a home business but it is often easier if someone else has braved the waters ahead of you.

3. Help as many people as you can and opportunities in life will continue to come at you.

-This is for several reasons. First if you are struggling in this economy and you find a solution that works for yourself it will most likely work for others. You help other people and they will never forget you. When the time comes in the future when you need another chance or something different to help you in a troubled time, anyone you have helped will be the first to come to you.

Note: To fully understand the above points remember number 3 creates a bigger effect for number 2 if and when you ever need a new change or opportunity in life. Life is always full of opportunity if you ACT NOW== REFER to NUMBER 1.

Wisdom from Jon Nadler, Thanks Jon!

Looking at the economy and the ups and downs it is always interesting to see and hear some one who often takes a very cautious optimistic view of things.

Recently as I've been researching various investments I've come across a guy who his direct honesty and refreshing insight is very rewarding. He recently wrote a newsletter and in that letter he had some really good words of wisdom. I'll share them with you now.

The carnage of 2008 forever changed the socioeconomic landscape and seismically shifted the collective perception of what we do, how we do it and who we do it with. As we look back at the year that was and cast an eye toward what will be, a little perspective will most certainly go a long way. Herewith are some personal lessons learned, some of which relate to the market but most of which apply to life.


-All you have is your name and your word.

-Emotion is the enemy when trading.

-The only difference between genius and madness is acceptance.

-Adapt but don't conform.

-The reaction to news is more important than the news itself.

-Time is the most precious commodity.

-Opportunities are made up easier than losses.

-The purpose of the journey is the journey itself.

-What goes around comes around.

-The greatest wisdom is bred as a function of pain.

-Bad times define good friends just as bad seasons define good fans.

-There is a difference between having fun and being happy.

-Be good to others and better to yourself.

-Work to live. Don't live to work.

-Profitability begins within.

-Gratitude is latitude.

-Seeing old friends is good for the soul.

-When in doubt, sit it out.

-Time is the arbiter of all fate.

-The air of integrity gets thinner with age.

-Free will is God's greatest gift.

-Experience is a close second.

-Negative energy is wasted energy.

-You've got to have faith.

-Hope isn't a viable investment vehicle.

-The only difference between intervention and manipulation is communication.

-One hand washes the other.

-Good traders know how to make money but great traders know how to take a loss.

-Where you stand is a function of where you sit.

-Life is shaped by decisions made.

-Take the high road. It's less crowded and boasts a much better view.

-To appreciate where we are, you must understand how we got here.

-The opposite of love isn't hate; it's apathy.

-Stay out of debt.

-The friction between opinions is where true education resides.

-A dream is only as powerful as those who believe in it.

-Money comes and goes.

-The best way to build a growth company is by surrounding yourself with people who can themselves grow.

-Tenacity and resolve are the hallmarks of success.

-View obstacles as opportunities.

-The only difference between a lesson and a mistake is the ability to learn from it.

-The definition of an investment should never be a trade gone awry.

-By the time you get to where you think you want to be, the journey will be over.

-Think positive.

Live Dials done and DFI Power Play

I'm doing a training on Live Dials

Today is an awesome opportunity for me. Things have worked out so I am going to be honored with the chance to make live dials and talk to clients live on the phone as our team at DFI listens in. We have so many talented leaders I rarely get to do this for our team.

I'm jacked up and stoked about it! I'm always making live dials for my own personal team. Obviously we work one on one with everyone we bring into the business. But to have the chance to do it for all of Coastal Travel! This is going to be a blast.
